Has anyone else noticed that we don’t see or hear of Cameron or Clegg since the coalition was formed – their minimal presence on our TV screens feels quite strange given the inordinate amount of exposure we were subjected to pre-Election. I’m sort of missing them !

I hear bad news via Gove and  Cable; Building School Fund and University fees. But we never see the dastardly duo, or have I blinked and missed them. I heard that public sector cuts need to be made up to 40% and just 25% for good behaviour. We also hear news stories about the NHS being dismantled at PCT level, oh and whispers of privitisation. Still they don’t come to our TV screens, unless of course you tune into PMQ’s on Wednesday. Today, it’s suggested that we could lose up to 60,000 police jobs by 2015. And still nothing. And such a cute couple they are too. Such boyish looks and so well kempt…and they can smile too. I’m sorry, I was drifting off for a moment into a reverie of sorts.

I feel like we have entered into some sort of political limbo land.

So the question has to be asked – where are they? Have they been abducted by aliens? Have they gone on holiday – perhaps together, to further bond themselves to their relationship ?

Okay, perhaps I shouldn’t be flippant as they’ve probably got their hands full trying to run the country jointly. Deciding on where the cuts should come next and who gets the short straw to deliver the news. One things for sure, they’re both keeping their hands free of such grubby goings on themselves. Neither one seemingly wants to be viewed as a Mr Nasty, or is it that they don’t want to remind their respective party members that they are part of a coalition? Oh okay I’m being flippant again ! [let me just slap my wristies]

Pre-Election there is so much about the various parties. There are the debates which showed the benefit that Twitter can have in forming opinions and sharing views. The Media was full on about the Election. Who said what ? Each morsel, each action was scrutinised, discussed, criticised. The Election and Politics was everywhere.

There was an upside to all of this. It was the first Election where there was debate away from the TV screens. The UK is not one of those countries that likes to talk the serious stuff of life like Politics. People were really thinking about where they should cast their vote at the General Election. Discussions were had between friends, colleagues and particularly over Twitter. I’ve got to say, that this was the most positive aspect of the Election Saga. The ordinary man and woman were talking Politics. I applauded the whole situation. This was the most amazing aspect for me. I loved it.

The Election came. There was no outright winner. A coalition was formed. Tory & Lib Dem voters who had thought long & hard, discussed and even fought over their views. They felt betrayed and abandoned, when “their” party sided with another where there were very serious differences. What on earth was going on? How could this happen? Doom & gloom was palpably felt. Would this partnership ever work? Getting into bed with the political enemy – how was this even possible in the UK? In Europe, there was no shock or concern as coalitions are quite normal states of affairs.

Immediately, we were told of the hard and tough choices facing the UK. We were despondent. We feared the Emergency Budget. We continue to fear what will come next….But then the World Cup came, so we turned our attentions to the exploits of football and placed our hopes of the future in the hands of the England team. Oh and how they let us down.

So now, nobody talks politics or football….we are in a limbo land.

  2. With luck they are too busy running the country and have chosen to get on with that rather than giving endless speeches and grinning a lot on telly like that useless twat Blair.
They have a lot to fix after 13 years of Labour mismanagement so not seeing them on the tele is OK by me so long as they are spending the time reducing the debt and undoing all the bollocks laws that Nu Liebore brought in.
